Week 1 Wrapup and Looking Forward

  • Carpe Diem 17708 Vashon Highway Southwest Vashon, Washington, 98070 United States (map)

What a fantastic week getting to know our Carpe Diem Class of 2026–27! We saw many returning faces and welcomed so many new ones. It was spectacular to see everyone come together and launch a wonderful new school year!

Carpe Diem students were BUSY!

Best of all, we made new friends and began building our classroom communities.

Our current theme is Healthy Bodies, Minds, and Spirits. Our areas of focus include cleanliness, family, friends, nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, and sleep. We kicked off our theme by creating our Hopes and Dreams project, which will be available for your viewing pleasure soon!

Of course, we also spent plenty of time learning routines and procedures, helping set everyone up for a successful year.

Core Groups created their names:

  • 🐠 Adorable Angelfish — Kindergarten

  • 🍌 Bouncing Bananas — 1st & 2nd Grade

  • 🐿️ Cheeky Chipmunks — 3rd & 4th Grade

Fourth graders had grand adventures and met lots of great people at Camp Burton with the Upper Campus. We heard all sorts of wonderful stories! Third graders joined the action on Thursday afternoon and were dependable, encouraging leaders throughout the rest of the week.

First and Second graders were amazing mentors and role models for our new Kindergarten students. They helped create a comfortable, welcoming, and safe environment for our youngest learners.

And our Kindergarteners ROCKED IT! They were brave, hardworking, and full of spirit. We are so proud of how they jumped into their first week of school!

We were disappointed to discover that our playground had been treated unkindly, but we are choosing to turn this challenge into an action project and find ways to spread positive vibes throughout our community.

We teachers are so proud of everyone and are excited for an excellent school year with this energetic and caring community.

A Few Important Things

  • Indoor shoes: As the weather turns, we will begin removing muddy shoes at the door and changing into soft-soled indoor shoes. Please choose shoes that are comfortable and secure—preferably not gigantic, loose-fitting slippers!

  • Volunteers: We would still greatly appreciate volunteers to help our school run smoothly. Are you interested in helping monitor outdoor recess, reading during lunchtime, assisting during Art, or helping with K–1 Science? Please connect with your K-4 teachers!

  • PE, Music, Science, and Spanish will begin in the afternoons. Make sure and have good PE shoes and a water bottle. K-2 has PE on Tuesdays and 3-4 on Thursdays.

We look forward to seeing everyone next week. Have a fantastic weekend!

Your teachers,
Andrea, Zoe, Sara, Kathi & Carolina
